About my work

Born in London, 1968
Now living in Bath, England.

Marc Wilson works both as an artist and commercial photographer and often teaches photography as a visiting lecturer at degree level.

“All these landscapes (because one is dealing here with landscapes even if they are far from the usual cliches of green meadows) have a story in ?common - the story of their abandonment by man…What Marc Wilson allows us to see is their survival, revealing their intrinsic beauty.” Review from Mouvement (French magazine).

Working in the genre of documentary landscape photography, Marc Wilson embraces locations that we are all drawn to. Snowdonia in Wales, the old pier in Brighton or the Swiss Alps. He shows us these recognizable landscapes, their raw nature, and their relationship to the human presence that may have been drawn towards them. Be it the recognition of a solitary human form or the physical trace of human intervention, these images allow the viewer to understand the vastness of the landscape and its natural power.

The journey to this work has evolved through many projects over the last ten years and has led to Marc’s continuing body of work that documents the landscapes that surround us, at times focusing on a particular theme such as his past project Abandoned, and his two current projects focusing on the ideas of Leisure and Industry which portray both the evidence and legacy of man in the landscape.

Marc Wilson has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions including a group show at the Photographer’s Gallery in London and internationally in Milan, Grenoble and New York; the inaugural shows at the Back Hill and Now Showing Galleries in London; Art 2001 and Photo2005; The Association of Photographer’s gallery and at the Focal Point gallery in Southend.

Marc Wilson exhibits work through the eyestorm, art-lab and londonart galleries and has also shown work with hotshoe international magazine.
He was part of the recent PDN Photo-annual 2006 "A year in pictures", and his work is also represented through Getty images and other photo-libraries.
