About my work
Art has been the focus of Deborah's life for as long as she can recall. She has developed a reputation for colourful, structured and adventurous work. Self-taught, she has not been influenced by any school of thought or method, an important factor in her development as an artist, creating a style which is truly innovative and free flowing, a juxtaposition of colour form and shape.
"Although my paintings have become increasingly non-objective over the years,
all my work still originates from the idea of community, the towns we build, the cities and the way we shape and destroy the rural landscape. This was influenced by my interest in maps and aerial photography and looking at things from a different perspective. I hope to show within the limits of non-objective painting the shape of the environment as it changes, as it diminishes in one direction, grows in another "
"Non- objective artwork is an exercise in geometric abstraction, space related to shape. My subject being the painting itself. Non-objective art explores the potential of abstraction, the shape, brush marks, colours, tones, lines and texture. This lets the viewer respond emotionally to the painting. My vocabulary of communication is the fusion of colour and structure".
