Artist profile
Born and bred in Wigan, Lancashire and married with two children. I have always had an interest in art and design and studied originally as a graphic designer.
I am by nature a collector of oddities and scrap items. I like to use materials that are reclaimed from waste sites and possess a certain character.

About my work
My materials are sourced from various waste sites from which I gain permission to look through. During my childhood I used to collect strange and interesting junk and it seems that this interest never left me. When searching for materials to use, I try to find items that have an intrinsic character that cannot be recreated. I like to preserve this character as much as possible in most of my pieces; however I sometimes like to get back to the raw material underneath to provide some interesting contrasts.
I often find myself experimenting with form and pattern seen in practical application, for example in engineering and construction. I like also to contrast this with more natural and organic inspired arrangements. I have many influences in my work but I feel that overall I am guided by the materials themselves. This makes my work unpredictable but fascinating to make.
I also feel passionate about environmental issues. My work uses only reclaimed materials mostly destined for a landfill site. My journeys to the rubbish tip never fail to shock me on what society throws away. My wife’s shock at the quantity of junk that I store in our garage is possibly equal to this!
The objects that I find fascinate me and I seem to have an ability to see through the dirt and imperfection to discover an intrinsic value and beauty. I hope I do these materials justice because I love what I do and I hope you get as much pleasure from my work as I had in making it.
